Game of the week - EPL

Sunday will witness another clash of the ‘Top Four’ in the English Premier League, as Manchester United visit their northern neighbours, Liverpool.

ManU are on top of the League by one point after leaders Chelsea stumbled last week. Wayne Rooney missed the midweek Champions League against CSKA Moscow, and may well miss this match too. With Dimitar Berbatov finally starting to find his ability to score, this may well be the least of Alex Ferguson’s worries, however. United have looked shaky at the back this year, when especially Rio Ferdinand has shown a unique skill of messing things up. Thank goodness they seem to have Edvin van der Sar back.

Liverpool’s fans plan to stage a protest march to demonstrate their frustration at the team’s American owners. Seems like a silly idea to use the owners as scapegoats – as if they had anything to do with the fact that the team has now lost four in a row, last beating Hull in September. This may well be Rafael Benitez’s last chance to show that he has what it takes to put Liverpool back at the top – the team now lies in eighth in the league. This is what it boils down to, I guess.

My prediction is that Manchester United will take all three points from Liverpool, launching the next stage in Rafa Benitez’s career. Unemployment.
