Tapio Ylinen wins our competition

Thursday was the day when the “O’C‘s has Talent” competition came to the grand finale. The four competing acts got through their sound-checks good and quick and without any pain. There was nothing left to do but wait for their turn to hit the stage and wow the judges and the the crowd! Humanwires were up first with their post-grunge type rock. The judges were very impressed with the talent these young guys exhibited praising their originality and fresh sound. Tapio Ylinen followed the rock with his solo act of electric guitar and vocals. He took on board all the criticism he received the previous week and engaged the audience with some story-telling to pad around his finely crafted songs. His act was praised highly by the judges. Then came the out-and-out rock band Viidettä vailla Valmis. These folks brought a huge group of fans and the whole house was rocking to the beat these guys were pumping out. Again the praise from the panel especially for being able to create a really great atmosphere in O’C‘s. Finally, the hilarious Janne & Tulkki came on to do their thing… The crowd was in stitches. By far the most entertaining act the night had seen but musically it wasn’t the most challenging. Still, how would the judges feel? Well, as before, they loved it and praised their originality but wondered was this the right competition for them…

After a long deliberation, a clear winner was found. The decision was not unanimous but there could only be one winner. Tapio Ylinen, the man out there on his own took the top place spot with his sheer talent. Talent on the guitar, talent in songwriting and talent with his vocals. He won a day and a half recording at Fantom Studios, a support slot at a big name artist’s gig from NEM Booking, 300 euros in cash from Black Rat and a 200 euro gift voucher for O’C‘s.

Our congratulations go out not only to Tapio, but to all the finalists. You can be sure that all of the acts on stage will be heard from again… Indeed, Janne & Tulkki have already been booked to play again in O’Connell’s in early August!
